More on – Engagement
At The Co-operative Asset Management, 'engagement' means 2 things:
- as active shareholders, tackling companies over issues of concern and championing best practice to effect change in company behaviour over time; and
- adding value to decision-making in the investment process:
- themes – engagement activity creates catalysts for the development of themes and informs thinking on how themes may play out over time
- company analysis – the intelligence gathered during engagement activity is fed back into the research process, adding a different perspective and creating a more robust view of a company.
For us, engagement is more than just the regular company meetings and information gathering that fund managers do. Our engagement activities include:
- attending, voting and participating at AGMs
- initiating one to one meetings with companies to discuss specific issues and strategies for improvement
- attending and participating in industry conferences to actively voice issues.
Our engagement activities and results are also independently audited to ensure that we continue to set the industry best practice standard in this area.
