Annual Engagement Review
We have this week released our latest Quarterly Engagement Review. These regular updates complement our Annual Engagement Review and will be available on our website so clients have access to info on our ongoing implementation of the ethical engagement policy and how our engagement activities are seeking to add value to our investments.
These reports on Responsible Investing are intended to illustrate to our clients how we are integrating ESG considerations into our investment process and upholding their values on a daily basis.
Highlights
The latest report discusses our findings into the gender balance in boardrooms which appeared as a special feature in the Observer in October 2009. We also discuss our engagement activity such as that with Arriva and International Power asking both companies to publishing carbon targets and moving processes to the most carbon-efficient. It is in our, and our customers', interests as investors in these companies for them to be run as efficiently as possible. For Arriva issues could arise with public transport rolling stock and infrastructure becoming a target for environmentalists and policy-makers and the company should be ahead of the curve on this. Similarly with International Power we are asking them to come into line with industry best practice as carbon regulation is having an increasing impact on the value and life of power generation assets. One of the report's special features this issue is a look at our position on the tobacco industry.
